Apart from the usual heels, midi skirts and tailored trousers we wear to work, they are not aways comfortable. Realistically, when wear heels to work my feet are killing me by 3pm and I am effing and blinding by 5pm. Between my moring commuite — which sometime see me walking to the train station due the the terrific traffic build up, running over two floors for meetings, sometimes I just want that weekend comfort with oversize jumper, sneakers, baggie jeans and big coat.

Be More Productive At Work

download copy.jpg

Prepare Who wants to work outside of the hours in which they’re paid? Maybe the adult version of Tracy Flick, but we’re hard-pressed to think of anyone else. However, a little Sunday prep time, or night-before prep time, can lessen work stress immensely and pave the way for greater productivity. We suggest making detailed to-do lists before every single day of work, as well as getting a jump on any tasks that may be difficult to complete while in the office (thanks, open seating plans).

A Girl Friend Is Often Better Than a Boyfriend

Of course, it’s nice to have someone to cuddle with on rainy nights and binge-watch Game of Thrones with, but a smart girl lives by the old adage that men may come and go but your girlfriends will be there forever. In light of the recent press surrounding the undeniable power of the single woman and the fact that—according to the publication—only (New York Magazine) around 20 percent of Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 are currently married, compared to 60 percent just a few decades ago, we decided to take a minute to celebrate the merits of female friendships. Because truly great girlfriends are not only important in today’s world, they’re imperative. Here, five reasons why girlfriends are better than boyfriends.

Own Your Single-mom Status

Angela Benton is the founder and CEO of NewME. Since launching in 2011, NewME has accelerated over 300 startups and helped them raise over $17 million in venture capital funding. Her advice: “Being a single mom is NOT a setback. Nestled somewhere in the pages of a storybook is the idea that entrepreneurs “hustle,” “crush it,” “grind” and whatever other word you can come up with to describe working really, really hard on your business 100 percent of the time. Out here in the real world we know that’s not true. Don’t get me wrong, entrepreneurship is a ton of work. However don’t let the perception of this lifestyle count you out before you even count yourself in. Being a single mom comes with a wealth of skills that do well in entrepreneurship like: multitasking, creativity, managing and/or operating on a budget, and problem-solving to say the least. I don’t know about you but I’d put my money on someone with these skills rather than a new college grad.”

Being Mindful About Money…

No-one likes to talk about it! We feel uncomfortable with it, we feel guilty spending it, we feel bad for not saving it, we feel shame when we have it. When we earn high salaries, we feel like we don’t deserve them. When we earn low salaries we’re scared to ask for more.
We all have different behaviour and belief systems when it comes to money. Much of this has been handed down to us from our parents, and the financial circumstances of the environment we grew up in.

Working Mum and The Selfie

Every woman wants to be a fashionista in today’s social media-crazed world. We take selfies galore –I I was any good at it I’d be posting more selfies too– pouting of the lips the bathroom shots…which I think it’s quite sad–taking selfies in public toilets, to me is inelegant.

As a single working mum and business woman I tend to not have time to take many selfies. In the mornings when I’m ready for work– it’s a dash out front (sometimes even a sprint) whilst hurrying up the boy. Cause I have to catch that train. Being a senior staff in the work place means you are to get in early or as least on time!!!

Some mornings after I’m ready for the day, I think “ooh you look great, it would be super to take a photo and post it so everyone can see how fabulous I look! But then no time to take a gazillion selfies until I find that perfect one that makes me look like I’m the dogs bollocks… Cause it does take time to get the blue steel shot. Taking selfies is time consuming and should be done when one is on holiday or on a sparce weekend and you just have nothing to do.

The difference between a jumpsuit, playsuit & romper

Playsuits, jumpsuits and rompers have become massively popular in last few years. What was once a selective trend is now worn by celebrities and consumers alike. Wearing a jumpsuit, playsuit or romper is super easy and can be dressed up or down. If you are unsure which one may be most suitable for you, take a look at our guide to the hottest trend in fashion.

image002 (1)

A jumpsuit is an item of clothing that incorporates a top and trousers in one. Jumpsuits can be worn on a number of occasions whether formal or informal. When it comes to choosing a jumpsuit it’s important to find one with the correct fit for your shape. Jumpsuits that are too tight are not only uncomfortable but can be highly unflattering.

If they’re too big, they can swamp your shape of make you look bigger than you actually are. Look for one that accentuates the waist, perhaps with colour or a belt. Also look at pant length and shape. If your pear shaped or curvy, go for styles that have wider legs in order to help balance your shape. When you’re wearing one for evening, shopping or special occasions make sure it’s easy to remove as you’ll need to be able to undo it easily if you need a toilet break.

Social Responsibility: Bottega Veneta

Ever wondered how some of the well-known fashion brands spend their money?

Besides reinvesting in new designs & product development and expensive ad campaigns, I’ve found out some Brands that put some money being their social responsibility policies. I will share these with you throughout the week. Here’s the first.

#Bottega Veneta’s history / identity are linked close to the Veneto region in the northeast of Italy… the heart of its social initiatives. In 2011 the brand assisted in launching the Women’s Mountain Cooperatives – a charity that benefits a large number of women who are in unemployment in the Alto Astico and Posina mountain. They’ve helped build two artisan #leather-making workshops and each employ 30 people. 2012 saw the brand financed a three-month cause in bag design and product development, was gave students from IUAV university in Venice the opportunity to attend and three students from Japan who was affected by the tsunami. New courses kicks off in Jan 2015.

Makes you think as an individual, what can I do? What little thing can I do everyday to show social responsibilities. So as you go about your day, think socially and give something back.

Staying Connected

So, I’ve been thinking a lot about networking and how many should one attend per week. I’m not a good networker, but I am trying to up my game 🙂

The thing is… Where do you go to network that would be valuable. One does not want to waste valuable blogging time hanging out with a bunch of people who don’t know anymore than you do about the situation. I’ve read an article recently on Hugo Campbell-Davys (he’s  the god of networking and is super connected) and here are his networking pointers:

  • GO PREPARED – if you’re going to an art show, read up about the artist. A restaurant? Find out why the chef is special.
  • DON’T DANCE – huh? It wastes valuable networking time
  • NEVER GET DRUNK –  But always carry a full glass of champagne
  • PACK IN THE EVENTS – Three per night is sufficient
  • BE THE LAST ONE STANDING –  So you don’t miss out on the latecomers
  • So what do you guys think. Does he have good pointers? The three events per night might do me in…

fashion intelligence

So I’ve started reading this book on emotional intelligence. What is emotional intelligence? Well, it’s being intelligent with your emotions! It’s the ability to understand and manage emotions and use them to inform your thinking and in turn use your thinking to understand and manage your motions… Can we combine emotional intelligence and fashion intelligence? Maybe we can call it ’emofash’ intelligence ^_^!

What do you think? I shall keep reading and keep you all posted on this emotional ride 🙂

The Importance of Shoes

“Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world” — Bette Midler

We think that one can never have too many high heels 🙂 Nah uh! When someone tries to tell us differently, we just smile and politely strut away.

monarch_Wingtip Heel

Having a great pair of heels can be a pretty powerful thing – it changes your posture, your attitude and mood. It can bring instantaneous fabulousness to a very drab outfit, and it makes your legs look better. Now that’s power, huh?

Learning By Doing…

A need to be useful inspires  me to seek out ways to help others fulfill their goals today. I love pushing my son the go over and above what he’s meant to do in his home work. I don’t like mediocracy. Some of my friends call me  a Tiger Mom. And you know what I really don’t mind. I always consider how I can do the most good and achieve more,  determined that my skills and talents can potentially benefit the people around me.

So think about how your expertise can be a boon to those who are confused regarding the next step in their journeys.

With that said… I’d like to recommend the above book. It’s a beautiful read. Enjoy!

Time Management…

This week was just crazy… yep I found myself flapping. I couldn’t find anything I would like to wear, and was a daily occurrence. My son was wandering WHAT was up with mum… I had very little patients and I seem to be constantly running out of time in the mornings. I woke up 5am and I still leave the house late. By Wednesday I was reduced to tears because I felt so out of control!

The reason for all this flapping: 2 Uni assignments due on the dame day, being a mum, working full-time and looking after my online store. This juggler felt like she was dropping balls everywhere. Then by Thursday, I’d had enough and I told myself ‘that is it! you have to learn how to manage your time better’. So, like we all do, I combed through the internet looking for ideas and tips to help me organise my life. Time management kept popping up and I decided to dig deeper. So I’m sharing these tips with you too. Take the quiz

I’ve started setting goals, and actually writing them down. Today felt like a much more organised accomplished day. Watch this space…

Miss Williams Petites

Bonjour… It’s Friday Beautiful…

Today I had to wake up extremely early to get into the office. Engineers… they start really early for some reason and don’t seem to get a lot done quickly.

In an attempt to perk up this early start, I’ve decided to put this ensemble of clothing together. I love the cotton denim skirt with this yellow sunshine tuxedo blouse. Makes me feel beautifully happy… all I need right now is a date with my beaux  this evening 🙂

Anyway, back to work, and I hope everyone had a super week and is looking forward to an amazing weekend. Remember to enjoy your family and friends whenever you have the opportunity.

Stay beautiful..

Fashion Talks…

Fashion Talks...

Today I have a meeting with my bank manager. These meetings are always slightly nerving, but they are very very necessary. See, when it comes to money, you must always, always know what you can afford to do. What I do monetarily with my company affects my private life in such a way.

So our meeting is discuss where my business is heading and how to deal with my marketing and sales et al. It all sounds rather boring to be honest. I’d rather be meeting with my wholesalers selecting the next batch of clothing and shoes etc.

Anyway, this MUST be done. I decided to put together a little outfit to help my state of mind. I love this understated black dress, the Bilboa bag and the simple court shoes. The outfit is not outlandish by any means it just says ” Fashion talks…”

In a Petite State of Mind..

Today I woke up and  I just can’t stop thinking of all the things I would like to put out here in terms of being petite. My experiences in the world around me. For instance, when I wear my heels I am taller, I tend to be taken more seriously or given the respect I deserve. However, when I wear my French Sole I am seen as a cute and cuddly barely 5’1″, pint size lady.

Honestly, sometimes I like the ‘cute, cuddly’ attention and sometimes it sucks! 🙂 because you want people to take you seriously, especially when you’re in a position that requires you to delegate!

Yesterday, I saw so many well dressed / put together petite ladies. I wanted to chase after them for a photo for my blog. I’ve managed one, but building up the courage to approach strangers and ask to take their pictures. They may think I’m weird!

I love being petite, pint size, cute, cuddly absolutely.  But I can still be the BOSS! Actually I think it makes us even more bossy… hmmmm 🙂

Judging Cultural Beliefs…

Today I received my Capricorn Daily Horoscope and I wanted to share it with everyone.

“A judgmental mood today could have you perceiving the cultural beliefs of others as inferior. This harsh opinion sends out negative energy that does not do service to you or the world. We all like to believe that we are right, but we can do so in a way that does not make others wrong. For example, our culture may have experts in technology, but theirs may have a greater understanding of nature. There is much we can learn from each other if we can remain open to different interpretations of life and spirituality. By putting ourselves in the place of others today, we open ourselves up to a greater understanding of the larger picture.”

Food for thought
If we consider the example of life in a small town, we understand that each person makes a different contribution to the survival of the town. The blacksmith is needed for his knowledge just as much as the farmer and the musician. Each may have a different view of the world based on their knowledge of their craft: The farmer could understand life as a field in which we reap what we sow; whereas the the blacksmith sees life as something raw that must be forged and worked to be shaped. The musician may see the importance of all the different notes to make a beautiful song of life. None of them are wrong; they merely have different points of view. Today we can strive to see the beliefs of others as different but equally important contributions to the balance of the universe.

Today I wanted to share some facts I’d found out about Petites. I’m delving deeper into my petite obsession and is determined to get measurements right for petite item of clothing on my website. I’ve purchased a small sewing machine and my friend who worked in fashion for Vivian Westwood will be showing me how to sew a pattern together. I’m super excited about this (big grin, rubbing hands together in excitement).

Some Petite Facts…

  • In 1951 the Average height of females in the UK was 5ft2″ (157cm) tall.
  • Average height in the UK today is 5ft4″
  • Roughly 40 % of American women are 5ft4″  160cm or under
  • Petite refers to height rather than weight
  • Average European height for females is 163.5 cm
  • The average height for a Victorian women was 5ft 1/2″ tall

Advantages of being petite

  • You look younger!
  • You won’t bang your head or duck when you walk through doorways :))
  • You can wear heels and not feel like a giant.

How To Make Mondays Brilliant…

Brilliant Mondays...

Monday is our opportunity to start the  week off positively.  Going into Monday with the right attitude will set you up for a week of success.  Instead of dreading Mondays imagine them to be fabulous.  Heres a few attitudes to adapt to make Mondays brilliant:

  1. Start changing your thoughts by Sunday night. Get back into ‘work mode’ think positively about Monday. It may be a struggle, but changing our train of thoughts will be a big help.
  2. Pick an outfit that makes you feel great. It’s comfortable and you are not worried about it.
  3. Get up early and do some exercise. I find down some sit-ups, pushups, and stretching for about  15 minutes always help to put me in a positive frame of mind. Sometimes I throw in some jumping jacks :-).  In addition, leave the house 15 minutes early to avoid the rush.
  4. Listen to your favourite songs / artists on your journey in to work. I love to listen to Jessie J on Mondays. If I listen to something uplifting and upbeat, it actually feels like Friday, not Monday! So create a Monday playlist to beat the blues
  5. Hang out with your favourite person at work. Perhaps you can make it so that you meet them for a quick coffee and a chat before heading into the workplace. That always help!
  6. Eat a healthy breakfast. Yes, that will set you up for he day. I like to have lemon juice with hot water to start ( it’s like a cleanse), Then I move on to eat my breakfast. I love berry smoothie Mondays. It’s filling and has loads of nutrients in it.

So theres are my tips to a making Mondays brilliant. What do you do?

Happy Monday! X

Best Camera for Blogging…

Canon EOS 1100D Digital SLR Camera

I’ve had this camera for nearly two weeks now, and I have to say I love it. There are a lot of fantastic cameras , but this was definitely the one for me. It’s taking a while to get used to all the features, but I was determined to get good manual shots. I’m still using the auto settings but I hope to now use them as much soon and I can get “my” pictures through the manual settings.

Auto is fantastic – especially when you don’t know what you’re doing. Every shot looked great; very natural. The images I’ve gotten from it are crisp, sharp and full of colour. I’m now shoot RAW and with various filters for different shots. It takes amazing landscape and moving shots

It is a very a little heavy for me as I’m petite but I’m sure I will get use to the it and it will feel lighter the more I use it. I would recommend getting a tripod for this camera, especially of you want to do self timer shots. The lens is fine for beginners, but you can try out other lenses. For keeping up your blogging hobby, it is more than satisfactory, and most professionals can probably afford better.

Below are some photos I’ve take with it recently. No messing with the colour or anything.

The Office Look…

The Office Look

How do you look stylish at the office?

You can always rely on classics: elegant jackets, pencil skirts, tailored pants. However, you don’t have to stay away from color and prints if they are well balanced. Add unique accessories to give an edge to a conservative look: original jewelry, an oversized handbag, an interesting scarf.

Perceptive Perspective…

wapiti dress

Being observant allows us to pick up on other people intentions, by just watching their body language. It enables us to detect the energy among people in a room and take steps to make it more positive. And once we’ve seen how easily we can affect those around us, we may be more conscious of our actions and reactions, and have an idea of the series of events that are likely to follow.

Having a sense of the bigger picture may encourage us to apologise to someone even if we don’t think it was our fault, just to create peace. Or we may want to just smile at someone who cut us off in traffic, possibly diffusing a potential future situation.

Today, be observant, it will make you perceptive and a more powerful force for good in the world.

Today’s Look Forward…

Today's Look

Looking forward is a great thing. When you look forward you remain positive. And when you remain positive you achieve more than you think you can. I know that this has been rehashed before… But I use this way of thinking when I get dress every morning. I look forward to what I will wear today. I don’t dwell on it but I look forward to getting dressed, putting my shoes etc etc..accomplishing my tasks at work and for my business.

So today my encouragement is to look forward. No matter what it is. Big or small; look forward to it and it will be a more enjoyable experience.

Have a great Tuesday!

Happy Weekend!

Happy Weekend!

So it’s the end of another week. The weather has managed to stay pretty warm… it’s definitely summer. The last time we had weather like this in London it was ten years ago. I remember it so clearly and I was pregnant with my son.
It’s definitely distracting and work is the last place you want to be…

With the warm weather I do hope you all are taking time to enjoy your life and the people in it. Take time to share this wonderful weather with friends, eat, drink and be healthy.

Play your favourite summer time music, eat watermelons, berries, etc…

Just enjoy every day and have the must happiest, fabulous of weekends!

Love Success…

How do we know when we are successful at something? So far whenever I feel successful in the things I set out to do, I take the following steps:

1. I Work Hard – nothing comes easy
2. I am Well-Presented – always dress the part
3. I Don’t Use Sexuality – you will be judged
4. I Try To Be Happy – live like it’s your last day. Be humble, make light of tricky situations. Be generous.
5. I Prepare Myself – fail to prepare and prepare to fail
6. I am Gracious – in triumph and defeat
7. I Believe In Myself – develop a thick skin. Don’t knock success, and surround myself with good.
8. I Don’t believe the hype – not everyone will love or hate me.

So for me success is individually marked. We have been successful at something…How do you mark your successes? X

Keep it Simple…

Keep it Simple...
In today’s world we seem to have lost the ability to keep things simple. We seem to over-complicate or lives with all sorts of things. I sometimes wonder why? Why have we stopped keeping things simple?

It’s funny as when we see people do something simple or dress without fuss, we adore it! We admire it and think it’s avant-garde…but really it isn’t.

We over-think what we want to wear each day, for we have forgotten how to keep it simple. Try to remember a time when you had over-think what you wanted to put on that day. I can bet your last penny, you overdid it. Wore too much or too little, dawned on more make-up or jewellery than normal. Then you leave the house feeling not so confident and unsure of what you are wearing.

The days when you don’t over think it are the days when you feel most confident.

So don’t over think it and feel like you have wear every single haute couture someone suggests.

Today keep it simple. Always, keep it simple and do YOU. X

What to Wear…

What to Wear...

Today it’s super hot day in London. It’s been ages since we’ve had weather like this. Everyone is enjoying the sunshine. People seem so happy when the sun’s is out.

So what do you wear when the weather is super hot? Wear what you feel most comfortable in. I find light floaty materials that does not stick to the skin is the best way to go. You stay cool and fell less weighed down by materials.

So get out and enjoy this beautiful weather! Happy Monday X

What is Independence… in today’s world independence means the right to choose the things and people to have in our lives that enrich it.

We choose what we want to wear each day, independently. We choose what we want to eat, and who we want to hang out with today.

I always try to choose independently, wisely and and try not to hurt people with my choices. So today celebrate Independence by choosing something that makes you feel happy and that is good.

Happy 4th July!

Make The World a Little Bit More Beautiful…

Make The World a Little Bit More Beautiful...

Today it’s raining in London. But for me that doesn’t matter much. Today I will answer this dreary weather by wearing something that cheers me up; make my world a little bit bright, sunny and beautiful.

What do you do when you feel that dark rain cloud looming over your life? I say focus on happier things or times. Get out and do something fun… force yourself! And it does work. You find a way to work through the darkness and create positive vibes for yourself.

So today, if you are feeling down, whatever it may be… wear something that lifts your spirits, that make you smile and make your world a little bit more beautiful!

Keep smiling X

Welcome to July…

Welcome to July...

July always seem to be the month when people seem the happiest. Is it because the weather has gotten warmer… well that does play a big part in our mental state.

I think it’s because people feel freer. The kids are off school for summer, parents get to be off work  for some of that time to spend time with their children. Vacations, holidays, sun, sand, beach. It all starts to happen in July!

So with that said, I would like to wish everyone a very happy JULY! Make the most of the summer wherever you are and whatever you are doing…

Stay happy X

Pink Friday…

Pink Friday...

As Friday begins we start to think of our weekend plans with great anticipation. Whatever you get up to make it fun, make it memorable, enjoy it and be happy. Maybe do something you’ve always wanted to do – something new and different.

Live Love Laugh x

Stylish Thursday…

Stylish Thursday...
To all you ladies out there, not just the petite ones, to everyone, you must remain stylish. You can buy fashion but you cannot buy style.

Style is classic, iconic, you never forget it, it doesn’t go stale. So wear something with Style today – make a splash, take me away, picture perfect, dreamy, summer sizzle, whatever you feel.

But stay true to you. Always x

Memory Wednesday…

Memory Wednesday...

Do you remember that dress you had which was your favourite and you wanted to wear it ALL the time?

I remember mine vividly… though it was not white, it was a soft baby yellow. Princess style, full skirt and flowers! I wore them with white girly Mary-Jane shoes. Now all grown up and I don’t think I would wear that same combo, but I still like to feel like a princess.

So remember today everyone” The light you possess is brighter than any star, any sun, any moon. You will find your place in the world beyond the one you are in.”

Be yourself always X

Simple Tuesday…

Simple Tuesday...

Everyday when you wake up; are you grateful for what you have or do you think of what you don’t have and fret. Sometimes I do, but then I catch myself going down that path and I’m jolted into giving up that train of thought.

I am grateful today because I am healthy, my son is healthy and strong and we live beautifully… We are not wealthy but we are rich. We are rich because we love…we love each other and we always make each other laugh. We have the ability and mind set to follow our dreams! And I am grateful for that.

What will you be grateful for today?
